 | We believe that the West Abington Improvement Hall was constructed sometime in the 1940's. It was constructed with the assistance of residents in the western section of Abington, to be used a community center, and as a place to hold social events. The Hall had many uses into the 90's, including holding Scout meetings and public dances. It's last use, prior to the current restoration, was as a location for a Head Start program. After Head Start left. The building fell into disrepair. A water pipe froze and burst, causing significant damage to the hard wood floor. Various Town Departments used it as a storage facility for furniture and records. In 1998, the leadership of Cub Scout Pack 11 was searching for a new home. Noticing that the Hall was apparantly abandoned, they inquired of its availability. It was discovered that the building came under the cognizance of the Park and Recreation Department. Pack 11 worked out an agreement with the Town. The Pack would renovate the building for use as a place for it's Pack and Den meetings. It would also be available for other non-profit community organizations.
