| Jim | Jim decided to take on a rather large project. The Gazebo at Island Grove needs some serious restoration. When he and I first looked at it, we thought some trim work needed to be replaced graffiti removed. The Park and Recreation Committee are very enthusiastic about the project but requested the missing benches be replaced. We didn't even know there were benches. They requested the Building Inspector look at the Gazebo, he felt some of the supporting columns may be need to be replaced. The Historical Commission is also enthusiastic but agreed that a structural engineer should also take a look. He feels all of the columns need to be replaced. Next year is Abington's Tricentennial and a lot of the events are planned to take place at the Grove and it would a shame if the Gazebo, built in 1912 for the town's bicentennial could not take center stage. Jim's biggest problem in this Eagle project may actually be raising the funds and the time involved. The project must be completed before he turns 18 on November 2. | |
